RWT: ReadWriteThink

Most literacy teachers know about ReadWriteThink.org, but have you checked it out recently?  I’ve always recommended it as a great resource for literacy lessons and resources, but I too have not checked it out in a long time.  Recently it was highlighted by a teacher as one of their favorite freebies so I went back to see what it has to offer.  WOW, it was impressive before but now I am even more impressed.

The site is sponsored by the IRA (International Reading Association) and the NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English).  It still has lesson plans, printouts and ideas for special calendar events and that would be enough to keep coming, but there is much more!  Here’s some new things (at least new since I’ve been on):

  • Student Interactives  These are tools that students can use to fulfill many different learning outcomes.  Just some examples include the Literary Graffiti, Webbing tool, many poem creator tools (acrostic, diamante, theme, just to mention three), and Character Trading Cards. All of these tools guide students through thinking and creating activities.
  • Parent and Afterschool Resources Great resources searchable by grade level, resource type, learning objective, and theme.

Because of the high quality content and great organization and searching tools this site should be bookmarked by all educators.

  1. Thanks for highlighting the resources on ReadWriteThink.org! We are very proud of what we have to offer on the site. If you are interested, we pay educators for their lesson plan and teaching ideas. Please let me know if you would like more information!
